Heil Proset Elite-6 Headset with HC6 Element
The new Heil Pro Set Elite is the ultimate boomset designed for commercial sportscasters, podcasters and amateur radio operators using the newly designed Heil HC 6 wide response microphone element. The new technology of the Heil HC 6 is designed for full range commercial AM or FM network broadcasts or can be adjusted for bright, articulate audio to cut through amateur radio noise and signal pileups. The Pro Set Elite offers dual side, highly efficient speakers mounted in acoustically tuned chambers which produce high rejection of outside noise. The exclusive Heil Phase Reversal feature allows the user to move the signal acoustically, which creates a spatial widening of the sound field that makes it easier to 'see' a signal inside a pileup while removing listener fatigue during prolonged use. The headphone's speakers fold up for easy transportation and storage.
The field-replaceable cushioned ear pads also come with removable cotton covers that can be easily removed for washing. The 6' coiled cable terminates in a 1/8" mono plug for the microphone and a stereo 1/8" plug for headphone speaker connection. A 1/8" to 1/4" adapter is also supplied. The PRO SET ELITE works with all Heil AD-1 adapter cables, which mate with just about every type of amateur radio transceiver.
Pro Set Elite 6 contains the Heil HC 6 full range dynamic broadcast element. The HC-6 is designed for commercial broadcast applications; the -3dB points are fixed at 100 Hz and 12.5 kHz, with sensitivity of -57 dB at 600 Ohms output impedance (centered at 1kHz). Using new dynamic technology, the HC 6 response can be equalized to match just about any requirement, from full range commercial broadcasting to serious contest and DXing.
HC-6 Features:
The HC-6 element features the wide low-frequency response of Heil's high-fidelity
microphones like the PR 781, coupled with the enhanced articulation and "sparkle" of
the HC-4 and HC-5 communications elements. The low-frequency roll-off is at about 150
Hz, while the high-frequency rise is approximately +6 dB by 2000 Hz and +8 dB
between 3000 and 4000 Hz.
Wide-range "flat" microphones tend to sound "muddy" on amateur radio SSB
transceivers without added equalization, but many transceivers have insufficient
adjustment range to bring out the full clarity possible on some microphones. By preloading
the high-frequency side with a time-proven rise in amplitude, this potential
limitation is eliminated. Adjustment is simplified and the result is crystal-clear audio
with lots of "pile-up punch" if you're working DX. An actual on-the-air demo ".wav" file
will be up on Heil's website soon, and we urge you to listen to what the HC-6 can do!
Setup Recommendations:
While every voice is different, the guidelines below will serve as satisfactory starting
points for operation. Read the particular transceiver's operating manual for more details.
Icom 746/756 Pro, 7600/7700/7800
Set Treble to +4, and Bass to -4. Use COMP Wide/Mid/Nar for high-fidelity, HC-5, or
HC-4 (DX) emulation.
Yaesu FT-1000MP Series:
Set Menu 5-9 to 6.0, and Menu 7-7 (SSB-T) to 100-3100 for high fidelity, 300-3100 for
DX. Leave Menu 4-4 off, or try selection "3."
Note: The FT-1000D, the predecessor to the MP series, does not have any DSP and
hence, no DSP equalization. However, the HC-6's articulation is such that it sounds great
on the FT-1000D, still a popular transceiver among elite DX operators.
Yaesu FT-950/2000, FTdx5000/9000:
Set EQ1 to 200 Hz, -8 dB, EQ2 to 900 Hz, -4 dB, and EQ3 to 2000 Hz, +6 dB, all with a
bandwidth of "2." Remember that there are separate "Processor On" settings. Use SSB
Transmit Bandwidth menu for high fidelity (100-2900 Hz), everyday (HC-5) operation
(300-2700 Hz), or DX (HC-4) work (400-2600 Hz).
Yaesu FT-450:
Set the equalizer to "2" for everyday operation, or "9" for DX and contest work.
Elecraft K3:
Set TX EQ as follows: 0.05 to -12, 0.1 to -10, 0.2 to -6, 0.4 to -2, 0.8 to 0, 1.6 to +4, 2.4
to +6, and 3.2 to +10.
Kenwood TS-870/2000Kenwood TS-870/2000:
Set TX Bandwidth to 3000 Hz, and TX EQ to "C" for everyday operation, or "H" for DX
and Contest work.
Kenwood TS-480:
Set Menu 19 (DSP TX EQ) to "C" for fidelity, Hi Boost 1 for everyday operation (HC-5
emulation), and Hi Boost 2 for DX work (HC-4 emulation). Set Menu 20 (TX
Bandwidth) to 2.4 kHz in most cases, or 2.0 kHz for extreme DX work. Note that the
transmitter bandwidth will not expand beyond 2.4 kHz.
Ten-Tec Orion II/Omni VII:
Set TX Filter Bandwidth to 2700 Hz, LF Roll-off to 200 Hz, and TX EQ to 0 for fidelity,
-6 for everyday operation (HC-5 emulation) and -12 for DX/contest work (HC-4
emulation).
The HC-6 element, like the HC-4 and HC-5, is not available for sale
separately
