KRS-271 Programming Software Kit Features:

The KRS Programmer from RT Systems lets you program all the details of the memory channels in an easy to use spreadsheet...bet you never realized there were this many details for each memory channel!!

Don't panic... the minimum you need for a memory channel is the Receive Frequency. With that and the defaults that the Programmer completes, you will be able to listen to the repeater.

You need just a little more to talk on the repeater. Along with Receive Frequency you will need Tone information if it is required for the repeater... and most do these days.

Now that you have those few details, start with the Receive Frequency (the frequency of the repeater). Just type it into the Receive Frequency field.

When you press Enter, the Programmer fills in lots of the details based on defaults for the band.

Then there are the rest of those columns...

You can ignore everything else other than Name and Tone which have no defaults.... or you can customize everything if your repeater demands it.

Transmit Frequency, Offset Frequency, Offset Direction, Offset Reverse, Operating Mode fields are all there and easy to change.

Name this channel.

Turn on Tone Mode if needed. Most repeaters require Tone and a CTCSS value.

Pick the CTCSS value from the list. You can't pick this value unless you set Tone Mode first.

RX CTCSS and DCS columns are used for special tones. Ignore them if the value is not active (light grey)... that's what the radio will do.

Check Skip to omit this channel during scanning.

Step is important to a Kenwood radio. Let the programmer handle this field for you.

TX Step is important to a Kenwood radio when the channel is a split. Again, let the programmer handle this field for you.

Clock Shift is used to make internal adjustments to the radio. This helps eliminate "birdies" on certain frequencies.
